Zyrtec Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Zyrtec is an antihistamine. It is prescribed to treat the sneezing; itchy, runny nose; and itchy, red, watery eyes caused by seasonal allergies such as hay fever. Zyrtec also relieves the symptoms of year-round allergies due to dust, mold, and animal dander.

Zyrtec Dosage

  • For adults, the usual starting dose is 5 or 10 milligrams once a day, depending on the severity of your symptoms.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Zyrtec with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Zyrtec with the following:

  • Antidepressants such as Tofranil, Elavil, Ludiomil, and Anafranil
  • Muscle relaxants such as Valium and Soma
  • Pain-relieving narcotics such as codeine, Demerol, and Percocet
  • Sedatives such as Nembutal, Seconal, and phenobarbital
  • High doses of theophylline (Theo-Dur)

After taken Zyrtec if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. The primary symptom of a Zyrtec overdose is extreme sleepiness.
