Zetia Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Zetia is a new kind of cholesterol-lowering drug. The older cholesterol-lowering drugs known as "statins" reduce cholesterol by interfering with its production in the body.

Zetia Dosage

  • The usual starting dose is 10 milligrams once a day.

Uses of Zetia

  • It is used to lowering cholesterol level.

Side Effects of Zetia

Before taken Zetia medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Zetia. Side effects may include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Back pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Joint pain
  • Sinusitis

Warnings and precautions before taking Zetia:

  • Zetia is not recommended for people with moderate to severe liver disease, or for children under 10.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Zetia with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So you should not combine Zetia with the cholesterol-lowering drugs known as fibrates, such as Lopid and Tricor. You should check with your doctor before combining Zetia with cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune).


There is no experience with Zetia overdose. But after taken Zetia if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect.
