Zaroxolyn Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Zaroxolyn is a diuretic used for the treatment of high blood pressure. These conditions include congestive heart failure and kidney disease. Zaroxolyn can be used alone or with other high blood pressure medications.

Zaroxolyn Dosage

  • Edema Due to Heart or Kidney Disorders, the usual starting dosage is 5 milligrams to 20 milligrams once a day.
  • Mild to Moderate High Blood Pressure, the usual starting dosage is 2.5 milligrams to 5 milligrams once a day.

  • It is used for the treatment of high blood pressure.

Side Effects of Zaroxolyn

Before taken Zaroxolyn medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Zaroxolyn. Side effects may include:

  • Artery damage
  • Blood abnormalities
  • Chest pain/discomfort
  • Fainting
  • Inflammation of the pancreas
  • Joint pain
  • Weakness
  • Yellow eyes and skin

Warnings and precautions before taking Zaroxolyn:

  • If you have liver disease, diabetes, gout, or lupus erythematosus, then you should be used Zaroxolyn with caution.
  • Dehydration, excessive sweating, severe diarrhea, or vomiting could deplete your fluids and cause your blood pressure to become too low. So you should be careful when exercising and in hot weather.
  • If you have had an allergic reaction to sulfa drugs, or quinethazone, then you should tell your doctor.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Zaroxolyn with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Zaroxolyn with the following:

  • ACTH
  • Barbiturates such as phenobarbital
  • Corticosteroids such as prednisone
  • Digitalis glycosides such as Lanoxin
  • Insulin
  • Lithium
  • Methenamine
  • Narcotics such as Percocet
  • Other high blood pressure medications such as Aldomet
  • Tubocurarine

After taken Zaroxolyn if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Zaroxolyn overdose include:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Fainting
  • Irritation of the stomach and intestines
  • Lethargy leading to coma
