Uniretic Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Uniretic combines two types of blood pressure medication. The first, moexipril hydrochloride, is an ACE inhibitor. It works by preventing a chemical in your blood known as angiotensin I from converting into a more potent form that increases salt and water retention in the body and causes the blood vessels to constrict.

Uniretic Dosage

  • For hydrochlorothiazide, the usual starting dosage is 50 milligrams a day.
  • The safety and effectiveness of Uniretic have not been established in children.

Side Effects of Uniretic

Before taken Uniretic medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Uniretic. Side effects may include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Back pain
  • Chest pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Impotence
  • Pain
  • Rash
  • Sinus inflammation

Warnings and precautions before taking Uniretic:

  • You should contact your doctor immediately if you develop swelling around your lips, or throat, or in your arms and legs, or if you begin to have difficulty breathing or swallowing.
  • If you have poor kidneys, then you should be use Uniretic with caution.
  • If you are taking Uniretic, then it may cause light-headedness, especially during the first few days of treatment. If you faint, then you should stop taking Uniretic and call your doctor immediately.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Uniretic with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Uniretic with the following:

  • ACTH
  • Barbiturates such as phenobarbital or Seconal
  • Cholestyramine
  • Diabetes medications such as glyburide and insulin
  • Guanabenz
  • Lithium
  • Narcotics such as Percocet
  • Potassium-sparing diuretics such as Dyrenium or Moduretic
  • Salt substitutes containing potassium

After taken Uniretic if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Uniretic overdose include:

  • Low blood pressure
  • Dehydration
  • Low levels of sodium
  • Potassium
