Timoptic Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Timoptic is a topical medication that effectively reduces internal pressure in the eye. It is used for the treatment of glaucoma to lower elevated eye pressure that could damage vision and, with other glaucoma medications, to further reduce pressure in the eye.

Timoptic Dosage

  • The usual starting dose is to place 1 drop of 0.25 percent Timoptic in the affected eye(s) twice a day.
  • The usual starting dose of Timoptic-XE is 1 drop of either 0.25 percent or 0.5 percent in the affected eye(s) once a day.

Uses of Timoptic

  • It is used for the treatment of glaucoma to lower elevated eye pressure.

Side Effects of Timoptic

Before taken Timoptic medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Timoptic. Side effects may include:

  • Burning
  • Stinging

Warnings and precautions before taking Timoptic:

  • You should be used Timoptic cautiously if you have a history of heart failure or poor circulation to the brain.
  • You should tell your doctor or dentist that you are using Timoptic if you have a medical emergency or before you have surgery or dental treatment.
  • If you have any type of allergy, you should tell your doctor. The frequency and severity of allergic reactions may increase while you are using Timoptic.
  • If you develop an eye infection, suffer an eye injury, or have eye surgery, then you should check with your doctor. Because you may need to stop using Timoptic.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Timoptic with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Timoptic with the following:

  • Epinephrine
  • Clonidine
  • Digitalis
  • Quinidine

After taken Timoptic if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Timoptic overdose include:

  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Shortness of breath
  • Wheezing
