Tazorac Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Tazorac gel comes in two strengths, 0.05% and 0.1%. Both strengths are used to treat the type of psoriasis that causes large plaques on the skin. The 0.1% strength is also used to treat mild to moderate facial acne.

Tazorac Dosage

  • For adults, you should apply the gel to affected areas once a day in the evening.

Side Effects of Tazorac

Before taken Tazorac medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Tazorac. Side effects may include:

  • Burning
  • Dry skin
  • Irritation
  • Skin pain
  • Worsening of psoriasis

Warnings and precautions before taking Tazorac:

  • You should be used Tazorac only on affected areas of the skin. Be careful to avoid your eyes and mouth. Tazorac is for external use only.
  • You should avoid prolonged exposure to the sun or sunlamps while you are using Tazorac. Apply sunscreen and wear protective clothing when you go into the sunlight. If you have a sunburn, wait until it heals before using Tazorac.
  • If you are taking Tazorac, then it may cause a temporary feeling of burning or stinging. If this irritation is excessive, or you develop extreme itching, peeling, or reddening, then you should stop using Tazorac and call your doctor.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Tazorac with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Tazorac with the following:

  • Major tranquilizers such as Compazine, Stelazine, and Thorazine
  • Quinolone antibiotics such as Cipro, Floxin, and Noroxin
  • Sulfa drugs such as Bactrim and Septra
  • Thiazide-type water pills such as Dyazide and HydroDIURIL

After taken Tazorac if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Tazorac overdose include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Dizziness
  • Facial flushing
  • Headache
  • Lack of coordination
