Symbyax Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Symbyax is used to treat depressive episodes that are associated with bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder, sometimes known as manic-depressive illness.

Symbyax Dosage

  • For adults, the usual starting dose is one capsule containing 6 milligrams of olanzapine and 25 milligrams of fluoxetine, taken once a day in the evening.
  • The safety and effectiveness of Symbyax have not been studied in children.

Uses of Symbyax

  • Symbyax is used to treat depression and other conditions.
  • Zyprexa used to treat the manic phase of bipolar disorder.

Side Effects of Symbyax

Before taken Symbyax medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Symbyax. Side effects may include:

  • Abnormal thinking
  • Increased appetite
  • Lack of coordination
  • Sleepiness
  • Tremor
  • Water retention

Warnings and precautions before taking Symbyax:

  • If you have diabetes or have a high risk of developing it, then see your doctor regularly for blood sugar testing.
  • You should be used Symbyax with caution if you have a history of heart disease, stroke, seizures, or liver problems.
  • After taken this medicine, then you may feel dizzy, or drowsiness. So you should not participate in any activities that require alertness such as driving and operate machinery.
  • If you are taking Symbyax, then it may cause dizziness and even fainting when getting up from sitting or lying down. If you experience this, then you should notify your doctor.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Symbyax with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Symbyax with the following:

  • Antidepressants known as tricyclics, such as Elavil
  • Blood pressure medications
  • Carbamazepine (Tegretol)
  • Diazepam
  • Fluvoxamine
  • Haloperidol
  • Lithium
  • Phenytoin (Dilantin)
  • Sumatriptan (Imitrex)
  • Tryptophan
  • Warfarin (Coumadin)

After taken Symbyax if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Symbyax overdose include:

  • Aggressive behavior
  • Coma
  • Heart problems
  • Irregular or fast heartbeat
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Problems with muscle coordination
