Persantine Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Persantine is used to reduce the formation of blood clots in people who have had heart valve surgery. It is used in combination with blood thinners such as Coumadin. It is also used in combination with other drugs, such as aspirin, to reduce the damage from a heart attack and prevent a recurrence, to treat angina.

Persantine Dosage

  • For adults, the usual starting dose is 75 milligrams to 100 milligrams, 4 times a day.
  • The safety and effectiveness of Persantine have not been established in children under 12 years of age.

Side Effects of Persantine

Warnings and precautions before taking Persantine:

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Persantine with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Persantine with the following:

  • Aspirin
  • Blood thinners such as Coumadin
  • Heart medications such as adenosine
  • Indomethacin
  • Ticlopidine
  • Valproic acid

  • Dizziness
  • Feeling of warmth
  • Low blood pressure
  • Rapid heartbeat
