Peridex Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Peridex is an oral rinse medication. It is used to treat gingivitis, a condition in which the gums become red and swollen.

Peridex Dosage

  • For adults, the usual starting dose of undiluted Peridex is one-half fluid ounce.
  • The effectiveness and safety of Peridex have not been established in children under 18 years of age.

Uses of Peridex

  • Peridex is an oral rinse used to treat gingivitis, a condition in which the gums become red and swollen.
  • Peridex is also used to control gum bleeding caused by gingivitis.

Side Effects of Peridex

Before taken Peridex medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Peridex. Side effects may include:

  • Change in taste
  • Increase in plaque
  • Staining of teeth
  • Mouth
  • Tooth fillings
  • Dentures, or other appliances in the mouth

Warnings and precautions before taking Peridex:

  • Peridex may also cause an excess of tartar build-up on your teeth. So you should be used this medication with extra caution.
  • The use of Peridex may leave a bitter after-taste. Rinsing your mouth with or drinking water after using Peridex may increase the bitterness.

Drug Interaction :-

No interactions with other drugs have been reported. But if you are taking Peridex with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Peridex with other drugs.


After taken Peridexl if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Peridex overdose include:

  • Slurred speech
  • Staggering, or sleepiness
  • Upset stomach
  • Nausea
