Miltown Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Miltown is a tranquilizer used in the treatment of anxiety disorders and for short-term relief of the symptoms of anxiety.

Miltown Dosage

  • For adults, the usual starting dose is 1,200 milligrams to 1,600 milligrams per day divided into 3 or 4 doses.
  • The usual starting dose for children 6 to 12 years of age is 200 to 600 milligrams per day divided into 2 or 3 doses.

Side Effects of Miltown

  • Broken capillary blood vessels
  • Diarrhea
  • Impaired coordination
  • Low red blood cell count
  • Nausea
  • Rash
  • Slurred speech
  • Vertigo

Warnings and precautions before taking Miltown:

  • If you develop a skin rash, sore throat, fever, or shortness of breath, then you should contact your doctor immediately.
  • After taken this medicine, then you may feel dizzy, or drowsiness. So you should not participate in any activities that require alertness such as driving and operate machinery.
  • If you have liver or kidney disorders, then you should tell your doctor before using Miltown.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Miltown with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Miltown with the following:

  • Antidepressant drugs such as Elavil, Nardil, and Tofranil
  • Barbiturates such as Seconal and phenobarbital
  • Narcotics such as Percocet or Demerol
  • Tranquilizers such as Halcion, Restoril, and Valium

After taken Miltown if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Miltown overdose include:

  • Coma
  • Drowsiness
  • Loss of muscle control
  • Severely impaired breathing
  • Unresponsiveness
