Hydergine Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Hydergine® is one of a group of medicines known as ergot alkaloids. It is used to treat memory loss or confusion which may be occur due to aging, dementia, or Alzheimer's disease. This medicine have various effects such as increase blood supply to the brain, increase oxygen delivered to the brain, and protect the brain from insufficient oxygen supply.

Hydergine Dosage

  • The usual starting dose of hydergine medicine is 1 milligram and you should be taken 3 times a day.

Uses of Hydergine

  • Hydergine medication is used to increase blood flow to the brain and are used to treat changes in mood, memory or behavior.

Side Effects of Hydergine

Before taken Hydergine medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. If you are taking Hydergine with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Hydergine with the following:

  • Bromocriptine
  • Cabergoline
  • Ergonovine
  • Methylergonovine

After taken Hydergine if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Hydergine overdose include:

  • Confusion
  • Yawning repeated
  • Hallucinations
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Delusions
  • Sweating
  • Pallor
  • Drowsiness
