Femring Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Estring™ is an insert that contains a natural estrogen female hormone. It is also important for maintaining normal female functions and is normally produced by the ovaries. Because after menopause, the ovaries decrease production of this hormone. So estradiol vaginal rings can help relieve symptoms of vaginal irritation and urinary tract irritation that may be occurs in some women during menopause.

Femring Dosage

Two doses of Femring available: 0.05 milligrams a day and 0.10 milligrams a day.

Uses of Femring

  • Estradiol is used to treat symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes and dryness, burning, and irritation in the vaginal area.
  • Estradiol may also be used to treat other medical conditions those are listed in this medication guide.

Side Effects of Femring

Before taken Femring medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Femring. Side effects may include:

  • Abdominal cramps
  • Back pain
  • High blood sugar
  • Irregular vaginal bleeding or spotting
  • Liver problems
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Vaginal yeast infections
  • Water retention

Warnings and precautions before taking Femring:

  • If you are using estrogen, then it may also increase your chances of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, heart attack, stroke, blood clots, and gallbladder disease.
  • You should use estrogen with caution if you have severely low blood levels of calcium.
  • If you are taking estrogen, then it could worsen various conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, or the genetic disorder porphyria.

Drug Interaction :- If you are taking Femring with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Femring with the following:

  • Carbamazepine
  • Erythromycin
  • Itraconazole
  • Ketoconazole
  • Phenobarbital
  • Rifampin
  • St. John's wort

After taken Femring if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of Femring overdose may include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Withdrawal bleeding
