Epival Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Epival medicine contains the active ingredient sodium valproate. It is used to treat epilepsy. It also relieves facial nerve pain.

Epival Dosage

  • You should be taken epival two to four times a day. But if you want to treat nerve pain, then you should be taken once a day.
  • You should be taken epival with food or milk.

Uses of Epival

  • Epival is used to treat various types of seizures and convulsions.

Side Effects of Epival

Before taken Epival medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Epival. Side effects may include:

  • Skin rashes
  • Aggression
  • Liver disorders
  • Drowsiness

Warnings and precautions before taking Epival:

  • You should not stop taking epival medicine without talking to your doctor.
  • After taken this medicine, you may feel some dizziness or drowsy. So you should not participate in any activites that require full mental alertness such as drive or operating machinery.
  • Epival medicine may also cause some people to put on weight. So you should talk to your doctor about this before you start treatment such as diet and exercise.

Drug Interaction:- If you are taking Epival with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Epival with the following:

  • Anticoagulants
  • Barbiturates
  • Dantrolene (e.g., Dantrium)
  • Ethosuximide
  • Primidone
  • Zidovudine

Symptoms of an Epival overdose are not known. But after taken Epival if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect.
