Elocon Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Mometasone is a topical steroid. It reduces or inhibits the actions of chemicals in the body that may be cause inflammation, redness, and swelling. It is used to treats skin problems that are accompanied by itching, redness, and swelling.

Elocon Dosage

  • For adults, you should be applied once daily.
  • Elocon cream and ointment may be used for children aged 2 and older, but not for more than 3 weeks.

Uses of Elocon

  • Mometasone is used to treat inflammation that may be caused by a number of conditions such as allergic reactions, eczema, and psoriasis.

Side Effects of Elocon

Before taken Elocon medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Elocon. Side effects may include:

  • Acne-like pimples
  • Boils
  • Damaged skin
  • Excessive hairiness
  • Infected hair follicles
  • Light colored patches on skin
  • Prickly heat
  • Rash around the mouth
  • Skin atrophy and wasting
  • Tingling

Warnings and precautions before taking Elocon:

  • If your skin becomes irritated, then you should call your doctor immediately.
  • If you have any skin infection, then you should also tell your doctor before using Elocon.
  • You should not use Elocon cream or ointment on your face, without talking with your doctor.

Drug Interaction :-

No interactions have been noted. But if you are taking Elocon with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Elocon with other drugs.


After taken Elocon if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of Elocon overdose may include:

  • Acne
  • Depression
  • Excessive hair growth
  • High blood pressure
  • Insomnia
  • Moon-faced appearance
  • Obese trunk
  • Paranoia
  • Stretch marks
