Elidel Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Pimecrolimus is an immunosuppressant. It helps to decrease the effects of the body's immune system. Elidel® is used to treat various skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis.

Elidel Dosage

  • For adults and children over 2 years, then you should be applied a thin layer of Elidel to the affected area 2 times a day.

Uses of Elidel

  • Elidel is used to treat atopic dermatitis such as eczema.
  • It may also be used to treat other medical conditions those are listed in this medication guide.

Side Effects of Elidel

Before taken Elidel medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Elidel. Side effects may include:

  • Allergic reaction
  • Bronchitis
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Inflammation of the throat and nasal passages
  • Nausea
  • Painful menstruation
  • Sore throat

Warnings and precautions before taking Elidel

  • You should use Elidel only on non-infected skin. If you develop any symptoms such as blisters or red spots, then you should tell your doctor.
  • You should also be avoided wrapping treated areas with bandages and other coverings without talking to your doctor.
  • You should also avoid or minimize your exposure to sunlight and tanning beds while you are taking Elidel.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Elidel with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Elidel with the following:

  • Cimetidine
  • Erythromycin
  • Fluconazole
  • Itraconazole
  • Ketoconazole

Symptoms of a Elidel overdose are not known. But after taken Elidel if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect.
