Crestor Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Crestor is a cholesterol-lowering medication that blocks the production of cholesterol in the body. It works by reducing levels of "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of "good" cholesterol.

Crestor Dosage

  • The usual starting dose is 10 milligrams once a day.
  • If you have severe kidney problems, the usual starting dose is 5 milligrams once a day.

Uses of Crestor

  • Crestor is used to treat high cholesterol. Because lowering your cholesterol can help prevent heart disease and hardening of the arteries, conditions that can lead to heart attack, stroke, and vascular disease.

Side Effects of Crestor

Before taken Crestor medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Crestor. Side effects may include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Indigestion
  • Nausea
  • Sore throat

Warnings and precautions before taking Crestor:

  • Before taking rosuvastatin, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to it; or to other "statins"; or if you have any other allergies.
  • This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, you should consult your doctor if you have active liver disease.
  • Before using this medication, you should tell your doctor your medical history, especially if you have heart disease, history of liver disease, kidney disease, underactive thyroid, alcohol use.

Drug Interaction :-If you are taking Crestor with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Crestor with the following:

  • Antacids such as Maalox or Mylanta
  • Cyclosporine
  • Gemfibrozil
  • Ketoconazole
  • Niacin
  • Oral contraceptives
  • Spironolactone
  • Warfarin

The symptoms of a Crestor overdose are not known. But after taken Crestor if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect.
