Ciprodex Medication- Uses & Side Effects

Ciprodex® Otic is used to treat ear infections. It kills certain bacteria or stops their growth. It stops the inflammation and itching that may be occur due to infection.

Ciprodex Dosage

  • The usual starting dose is 4 drops in the affected ear twice a day for 7 days.
  • You should be try to use Ciprodex once in the morning and once at night, about 12 hours apart.

Uses of Ciprodex

  • It is used with ciprofloxacin to reduce inflammation that may be caused by an infection.
  • Together, ciprofloxacin and dexamethasone are used to treat ear infections.

Side Effects of Ciprodex

Before taken Ciprodex medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Ciprodex. Side effects may include:

  • Ear pain or discomfort
  • Itching in the ear

Warnings and precautions before taking Ciprodex:

  • Before using this medication, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to quinolone antibiotics or to corticosteroids or if you have any other allergies.
  • You should not be used this medication if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, you should consult with your doctor if you have an ear infection that may be occur due to virus such as herpes simplex.
  • This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.

Drug Interaction :-If you are taking Ciprodex with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Ciprodex with other drugs. But there is no information on interactions between Ciprodex and other drugs.


Symptoms of a Ciprodex overdose are not known. But after taken Ciprodex if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect.
