Mupirocin such as pseudomonic acid A, or Bactroban is an antibiotic originally isolated from Pseudomonas fluorescens. It is effective against Gram-positive bacteria. Mupirocin is a naturally occurring antibiotic.

Bactroban Dosage

  • You should apply a small amount of Bactroban to the affected area 3 times a day and cover the treated area with gauze if you want.
  • Bactroban Ointment should be applied to the affected area three times daily.

Uses of Bactroban

  • Bactroban ointment is used to treat various types of skin infections including school sores, infection of the hair root and boils.
  • It is also used when infection occurs in skin that damaged by eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, herpes, wounds, cuts, grazes etc.

Side Effects of Bactroban

Before taken Bactroban medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Bactroban. Side effects may include:

  • Burning
  • Pain
  • Stinging

Warnings and precautions before taking Bactroban

  • Continued or prolonged use of Bactroban may result in the growth of bacteria and it may also cause secondary infection.
  • You should also be avoided contact with eyes.
  • If your skin shows signs of an allergic reaction or irritation, then you should stop using Bactroban and consult with your doctor.
