Axert Medication- Uses & Side Effects

Almotriptan is a headache medicine. It works by narrowing the blood vessels around the brain. It also reduces substances in the body that may trigger headache pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and other migraine symptoms.

Axert Dosage

  • For adults, you should be taken one tablet at the onset of the headache. If the headache returns, then the second dose can be taken 2 hours later with your doctor's approval.
  • If you have liver or kidney problems, then you should be used 6.25-milligram tablets.

  • Almotriptan is used to treat migraine headache attacks.

Side Effects of Axert

  • Nausea
  • Sleepiness

Warnings and precautions before taking Axert:

  • Before taking almotriptan, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to it; or to other "triptan" migraine drugs; or if you have any other allergies.
  • Before using this medicine, you should consult your doctor if you have chest pain, history of heart attack(s) or strokes, other heart or blood vessel disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure.
  • After taken this medicine, then you may feel dizzy, or drowsiness. So you should not participate in any activities that require alertness such as driving and operate machinery.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Axert with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Axert with the following:

  • Antidepressants that boost serotonin levels, including Luvox, Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft.
  • Erythromycin
  • Itraconazole
  • Ketoconazole
  • Ritonavir

After taken Axert if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Axert overdose include

  • Severe headache
  • Blurred vision
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Chest pain
  • Numbness
  • Seizure
  • Stiffness
  • Tiredness
