Avandamet Medication- Uses & Side Effects

Avandamet is a combination of two oral diabetes medicines that help control blood sugar levels. Avandamet™ is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. This medicine lowers blood sugar and helps your body to use insulin more efficiently.

Avandamet Dosage

  • For patients who are inadequately controlled on rosiglitazone therapy alone, the usual starting dose is 1,000 milligrams of metformin plus the dose of rosiglitazone you are already taking.
  • For patients on combination therapy taking separate doses of rosiglitazone and metformin, the usual starting dose of Avandamet is based on your current doses of rosiglitazone and metformin.

Side Effects of Avandamet

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Avandamet with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Avandamet with the following:

  • Amiloride
  • Cimetidine
  • Digoxin
  • Estrogens such as Premarin
  • Furosemide
  • Ranitidine
  • Steroids such as prednisone
  • Thyroid hormones such as Synthroid
  • Vancomycin

After taken Avandamet if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Avandamet overdose include

  • Drowsiness
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Tremors
  • Sweating
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Seizure
  • Fainting
