Alupent Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Alupent contains the active ingredient orciprenaline sulphate and it is similar to a natural human hormone known as adrenaline. It works by acting on receptors in the lungs known as beta 2 receptors.

Alupent Dosage

  • If you are using Inhalation Aerosol, then the usual starting dose is 2 to 3 inhalations.
  • Alupent Inhalation Aerosol is not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age.

Uses of Alupent

  • It is used to treat Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease condition in the lungs that may causes the respiratory passages and may damage the lungs.

Side Effects of Alupent

Before taken Alupent medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Alupent. Side effects may include:

  • Bad taste in mouth
  • Cough
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Rapid or throbbing heartbeat
  • Stomach and intestinal upset

Warnings and precautions before taking Alupent :

  • If you are taking Alupent, then you should not use other inhaled medications known as sympathomimetics before checking with your doctor.
  • You should consult with your doctor before using Alupent if you have a heart condition, a convulsive disorder such as epilepsy, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, or diabetes mellitus.
  • After taken this medicine, then you may feel dizzy, or drowsiness. So you should not participate in any activities that require alertness such as driving and operate machinery.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Alupent with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Alupent with the following:

  • MAO inhibitors
  • Bronchodilators such as Ventolin and Proventil inhalers
  • Tricyclic antidepressants such as Elavil and Tofranil

After taken Alupent if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Alupent overdose include:

  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Nausea
  • Rapid
  • Chest pain
