Aggrenox Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Aggrenox™ decreases the risk of stroke in patients who had a stroke ischemic attack known as 'TIA' or 'mini-stroke'.

Aggrenox Dosage

  • For adults, the usual starting dosage of Aggrenox is one capsule twice a day and you should be taken in the morning and evening.

Uses of Aggrenox

  • Aspirin and dipyridamole is used to reduce the risk of stroke by preventing the formation of blood clots in patients.
  • It may also be used to treats other medical conditions those are listed in this medication guide.

Side Effects of Aggrenox

Before taken Aggrenox medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Aggrenox. Side effects may include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Back pain
  • Bleeding
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Indigestion
  • Joint pain
  • Nausea
  • Pain
  • Vomiting

Warnings and precautions before taking Aggrenox:

  • You should tell your doctor your medical history such as any allergies or aspirin, liver problems, kidney problems, asthma, blood or bleeding disorders, low blood pressure, heart problems.
  • After taken this medicine, then you may feel dizzy, or drowsiness. So you should not participate in any activities that require alertness such as driving and operate machinery.
  • If you are taking this medicine, then aspirin in Aggrenox may cause stomach bleeding. So you should be avoided aggrenox if you have a stomach ulcer
  • You should tell the doctor that you are taking Aggrenox if you have a medical emergency or plan to have surgery.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Aggrenox with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Aggrenox with the following:

  • Acetazolamide
  • Blood-thinning drugs such as Coumadin
  • Gout medications such as Benemid and Anturane
  • Methotrexate
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Advil and Indocin
  • Oral diabetes drugs
  • Seizure medications
  • Water pills such as Lasix and HydroDiuril

After taken Aggrenox if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Aggrenox overdose include:

  • Dizziness
  • Flushes
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Restlessness
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Sweating
  • Warm feeling
