Zestril Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Prinivil® is an antihypertensive known as an ACE inhibitor. Lisinopril controls high blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels. Because high blood pressure levels can damage your kidneys, and may also be lead to a stroke or heart failure.

Zestril Dosage

  • For the treatment of high blood pressure, the usual starting dose is 10 milligrams, and you should be taken 1 time a day.
  • For the treatment of heart failure, the usual starting dose is 5 milligrams once a day.

Uses of Zestril

  • It is used to treat high blood pressure in adults and in children 6 years of age and older.
  • This medication may also be used after an acute heart attack to improve survival.

Side Effects of Zestril

Before taken Zestril medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Zestril. Side effects may include:

  • Faster than normal heart beat
  • Dry mouth
  • Changes in mood
  • Impotence
  • Confusion
  • Dizziness
  • Alteration in taste
  • Chest pain

Warnings and precautions before taking Zestril:

  • After taken this medicine, then you may feel dizzy, or drowsiness. So you should not participate in any activities that require alertness such as driving and operate machinery.
  • You should tell your doctor your medical history, especially if you have kidney disease, high blood levels of potassium, heart problems, diabetes, blood vessel disease, before using this medication.
  • Before having surgery, you should tell your doctor that you are taking this medication.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Zestril with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Zestril with the following:

  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as indomethacin (Indocin)
  • Lithium
  • Potassium preparations
  • Water pills such as HydroDIURIL and Lasix
Overdose

After taken Zestril if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Zestril overdose include:

  • Slow heartbeat
  • Severe dizziness
  • Fainting
