Tequin Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Tequin™ is an antibiotic in a group of drugs known as fluoroquinolones. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. It is used to treat bronchitis, kidney and other urinary tract infections and certain sexually transmitted diseases. It will not work for viral infections such as common cold, flu.

Tequin Dosage

  • For the treatment of Acute Sinus Infections, the usual starting dose is 400 milligrams and you should be taken once a day for 10 days.
  • For the treatment of Chronic Bronchitis, the usual starting dose is 400 milligrams once a day for 5 days.

Uses of Tequin

  • Tequin is used to treat various infections including bacterial infections of the lungs, sinuses, skin, and urinary tract.

Side Effects of Tequin

Before taken Tequin medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Tequin. Side effects may include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Vaginal inflammation
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Stomach pain

Warnings and precautions before taking Tequin:

  • Before using this medication, you should tell your doctor your medical history, especially if you have brain disorders, certain heart problems, kidney disease, seizures, family history of various heart rhythm disorders.
  • After taken this medicine, then you may feel dizzy, or drowsiness. So you should not participate in any activities that require alertness such as driving and operate machinery.
  • Before taking gatifloxacin, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to it or to other quinolones such as ciprofloxacin or if you have any other allergies.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Tequin with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Tequin with the following:

  • Antacids containing aluminum
  • Vitamins containing iron, magnesium, or zinc
  • Digoxin
  • Probenecid
  • Insulin
  • Oral diabetes drugs such as Diabinese and Micronase
Overdose

After taken Tequin if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Tequin overdose include:

  • Decreased activity
  • Slowed breathing
  • Vomiting
  • Seizure
