Seroquel Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Seroquel is the first in a new class of antipsychotic medications. It works by diminishing the action of dopamine and serotonin, two of the brain's chief chemical messengers. Seroquel is used for the treatment of schizophrenia, a mental disorder marked by delusions, and loss of contact with reality. It is also used for the short-term treatment of mania associated with bipolar disorder.

Seroquel Dosage

  • For adults, the usual starting dosage range is 300 to 400 milligrams a day.

Side Effects of Seroquel

  • Abdominal pain
  • Constipation
  • Diminished movement
  • Excessive muscle tone
  • Headache
  • Indigestion
  • Low blood pressure
  • Nasal inflammation

Warnings and precautions before taking Seroquel :

  • If you are using Seroquel, then it may cause low blood pressure, with accompanying dizziness, fainting, and rapid heartbeat. So you should be used Seroquel with caution.
  • After taken this medicine, then you may feel dizzy, or drowsiness. So you should not participate in any activities that require alertness such as driving and operate machinery.
  • If you develop signs of high blood sugar, including dry mouth, increased urination, and tiredness, then you should tell your doctor.
  • If you are having problems with your vision, then you should tell your doctor. Because there is a chance that Seroquel may cause cataracts.

Overdose

After taken Seroquel if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Seroquel overdose include:

  • Dizziness
  • Fainting
  • Rapid heartbeat
