Procardia Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Procardia and Procardia XL are calcium channel blockers. They are work by reducing the workload of the heart by relaxing the muscles in the walls of the arteries, allowing them to dilate. Procardia and Procardia XL are used to treat angina. Procardia XL is also used to treat high blood pressure.

Procardia Dosage

  • The usual starting dose of Procardia and Adalat is one 10-milligram capsule, 3 times a day.
  • If you are taking Procardia XL, then the usual starting dose is 30- or 60-milligram , and you should be taken once daily.

Uses of Procardia

  • Procardia and Procardia XL are used to treat angina.
  • Procardia XL is also used to treat high blood pressure.

Side Effects of Procardia

Before taken Procardia medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Procardia. Side effects may include:

  • Constipation
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Giddiness
  • Headache
  • Light-headedness
  • Mood changes
  • Nasal congestion
  • Sore throat

Warnings and precautions before taking Procardia:

  • If you are taking Procardia and Procardia XL, then it may cause your blood pressure to become too low. So your doctor should check your blood pressure when you are taking Procardia or Procardia XL.
  • It may also increased angina when you are taking Procardia or Procardia XL, or when your dosage is increased. If this happens, then you should contact your doctor immediately.
  • If you have tight aortic stenosis, then your doctor will monitor you carefully while you are taking Procardia or Procardia XL.
  • You should be used Procardia XL cautiously if you have any stomach or intestinal narrowing.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Procardia with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Procardia with the following:

  • Acarbose
  • Benazepril
  • Carbamazepine
  • Delavirine
  • Erythromycin
  • Fosamprinavir
  • Indinavir
  • Ketoconazole
  • Metformin
  • Nefazodone
  • Phenobarbitone
  • Quinidine
  • Rifampin
Overdose

After taken Procardia if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Procardia overdose include:

  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Severe drop in blood pressure
  • Weakness
