Lotrel Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Lotrel is used for the treatment of high blood pressure. It reduced the workload of the heart by slowing down the passage of nerve impulses and hence the contractions of the heart muscle. It also improves blood flow through the heart and throughout the body and also reduces blood pressure. Benazepril, is an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor. It works by preventing the transformation of a hormone known as angiotensin I into a more potent substance that increases salt and water retention in your body.

Lotrel Dosage

  • For adults, the usual starting dosage is 10 or 20 milligrams daily.
  • Safety and effectiveness in children have not been established.

Side Effects of Lotrel

  • Headache
  • Swelling

Warnings and precautions before taking Lotrel:

  • If you have poor kidney function, then there is a slight chance that Lotensin may reduce your supply of infection-fighting white blood cells. So you should be used this medication with extra caution.
  • You should contact your doctor if you develop abdominal pain with or without nausea and vomiting.
  • If you are taking Lotrel, then it may also cause low blood pressure, especially if you are taking high doses of diuretics.
  • If you have congestive heart failure, then you should be used Lotrel with caution. If you have kidney disease or severe liver disease, diabetes, lupus erythematosus, or scleroderma, then use Lotrel with caution.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Lotrel with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Lotrel with the following:

  • Lithium
  • Potassium supplements
  • Diuretics such as Diuril
Overdose

Although there is no specific information available. But after taken Lotrel if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect.
