Hyzaar Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Hyzaar® is a combination of two drugs and used to treat lower blood pressure. Losartan controls high blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels. It is a diuretic. High blood pressure can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. So by lowering blood pressure, it help to reduce your risk of having damage to your kidneys, heart, or other organs.

Hyzaar Dosage

  • The usual starting dose is 50-12.5 tablet per day.
  • If your blood pressure does not respond to this dose, then your doctor may increase the dose to two 50-12.5 tablets once daily, or one 100-25 tablet a day.

Uses of Hyzaar

  • Hyzaar is used to treat high blood pressure.

Side Effects of Hyzaar

Before taken Hyzaar medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Hyzaar. Side effects may include:

  • Dizziness
  • Upper respiratory infection

Warnings and precautions before taking Hyzaar:

  • If you are taking hyzaar and have kidney disease, then you should tell your doctor and you should be used this medication with extra caution.
  • It may also cause low blood pressure, especially if you are also taking another diuretic. You should consult with your doctor.
  • This drug can cause serious harm to an unborn baby if used during the last six months of pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, then you should contact your doctor immediately.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Hyzaar with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Hyzaar with the following:

  • Barbiturates such as phenobarbital and Seconal
  • Cholestyramine
  • Diuretics that leave potassium in the body, such as Aldactone, triamterene, and
  • Amiloride
  • Indomethacin
  • Insulin
  • Ketoconazole
  • Lithium
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Other blood pressure-lowering drugs
Overdose

After taken Hyzaar if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Hyzaar overdose include:

  • Dryness
  • Thirst
  • Overall weakness
  • Tiredness
  • Restlessness
  • Confusion
  • Muscle pains
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
