Feldene Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Piroxicam is in a class of drugs known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It is used to treats pain and inflammation that are associated with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Mostly it is prescribed both for sudden flare-ups and for long-term treatment.

Feldene Dosage

  • For the treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis, the usual dose is 20 milligrams a day in one dose.
  • For children, the safety and effectiveness of Feldene have not been established in children.

Uses of Feldene

  • Piroxicam is used to reduce the pain, inflammation, and stiffness that may be occur due to rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
  • This medication may also be used to treat other medical conditions such as gouty arthritis, arthritis of the spine, and muscle injuries.

Side Effects of Feldene

Before taken Feldene medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Feldene. Side effects may include:

  • Abdominal pain or discomfort
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Fluid retention
  • Headache
  • Itching
  • Kidney problems
  • Rash
  • Stomach upset
  • Vomiting

Warnings and precautions before taking Feldene:

  • If you are taking Feldene, then it may cause stomach ulcer or bleeding. So you should be used this medicine with extra caution.
  • If you have heart disease, or high blood pressure, or other medical conditions that may cause fluid retention, then you should also be used Feldene with caution.
  • You should be taken Feldene capsules, dispersible tablets and melt tablets with or after food.

Drug Interaction :- If you are taking Feldene with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Feldene with the following:

  • Anticoagulants
  • Blood pressure
  • Prinivil, and Zestril
  • Furosemide
  • Lithium
  • Methotrexate
Overdose

After taken Feldene if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of Feldene overdose may include:

  • Drowsiness
  • Nausea
  • Stomach pain
  • Vomiting
