Daypro Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Oxaprozin is in a class of drugs known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It helps reduce inflammation and use to treat moderate pain. It also reduces fever and helps relieve the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and other conditions that are associated with inflammation.

Daypro Dosage

  • If you have Rheumatoid Arthritis, then the usual daily dose is 1200 milligrams means two 600-milligram caplets once a day.
  • If you have Osteoarthritis, then the usual starting dose for moderate to severe osteoarthritis is 1200 milligrams (two 600-milligram caplets) once a day.
  • Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor.

Uses of Daypro

  • Oxaprozin is used to reduce the pain, inflammation, and stiffness that may be caused by rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
  • Oxaprozin is in a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Side Effects of Daypro

Before taken Daypro medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Daypro. Side effects may include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Confusion
  • Depression
  • Frequent or painful urination
  • Gas
  • Loss of appetite
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Vomiting

Warnings and precautions before taking Daypro

  • You should use daypro with caution if you have kidney or liver disease.
  • Daypro may also cause sensitivity to sunlight. So you should avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. You should also use sunscreens and wear protective clothing.
  • Before taking oxaprozin, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to aspirin or other NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib; or if you have any other allergies.
  • Do not take oxaprozin without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Daypro with certain other drugs, then it may be increased, decreased, or altered the effects of medicine. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Daypro with the following:

  • Aspirin
  • Blood thinners such as Coumadin
  • Diuretics such as Lasix and Midamor
  • Lithium (Lithonate)
  • Ulcer drugs such as Tagamet and Zantac
Overdose

After taken Daypro if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Daypro overdose may include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach pain
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Blurred vision
  • Seizures
  • Numbness
  • Slow breathing
