Benicar Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Benicar is used to controls high blood pressure. Because it works by blocking the effect of a hormone known as angiotensin II. It prevents the constriction of blood vessels including veins and arteries.

Benicar Dosage

  • The usual starting dose is 20 milligrams once daily. But if you are taking a diuretic, then your starting dose may be smaller than usual.
  • You should take each dose with a full glass of water.

Uses of Benicar

  • Benicar is used to treat high blood pressure in adults. You can also used this medicine alone or with other medicines to treat high blood pressure.

Side Effects of Benicar

Before taken Benicar medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Benicar. Side effects may include:

  • Dizziness
  • Back pain
  • Blood in urine
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • High blood sugar
  • Injury
  • Runny nose
  • Sinus inflammation
  • Sore throat
  • Upper respiratory tract infection

Warnings and precautions before taking Benicar

  • You should not take this medicine if you are pregnant. If you get pregnant while taking Benicar, then you should stop taking Benicar and call your doctor immediately.
  • It may also cause a severe drop in blood pressure, especially when you first start taking the drug.
  • If you have kidney disease or congestive heart failure, then you should use medicne with caution.
  • Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor.
  • Do not take olmesartan without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Benicar with certain other drugs, then it may be increased, decreased, or altered the effects of medicine. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Benicar with the following:

  • Barbiturates such as phenobarbital and Seconal
  • Cholestyramine (Questran)
  • Digoxin (Lanoxin)
  • Insulin
Overdose

After taken Benicar if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Benicar overdose may include:

  • Fast or slow heartbeat
  • Very low blood pressure.
