Avandia Medication- Uses & Side Effects

Avandia is an oral diabetes medicine that help control blood sugar levels. It is used to treat a certain type of diabetes mellitus known as type 2 diabetes. It may also be used alone or with another type of diabetes medicine, such as metformin, insulin, a sulfonylurea, or sulfonylurea plus metformin.

Avandia Dosage

  • For adults, the usual starting dose of Avandia either alone or in combination with insulin or another diabetes drug is 4 milligrams once a day or 2 milligrams twice a day.

Uses of Avandia

  • Avandia is for people with type 2 diabetes who do not use daily insulin injections.

Side Effects of Avandia

Before taken Avandia medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Avandia. Side effects may include:

  • Back pain
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Low blood sugar
  • Respiratory tract infections
  • Sinus inflammation

Warnings and precautions before taking Avandia:

  • Before taking rosiglitazone, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to it; or to other "glitazones" such as pioglitazone; or if you have any other allergies.
  • You should not be used this drug if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, you should consult with your doctor if you have type 1 diabetes, very high blood glucose, history of liver disease, active liver disease.
  • After taken this medicine, then you may feel dizzy, or drowsiness. So you should not participate in any activities that require alertness such as driving and operate machinery.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Avandia with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So before using this medication, you should tell your doctor that what prescription and nonprescription products you may use, especially if you have other anti-diabetic medications, gemfibrozil, herbal/natural products.

Overdose

After taken Avandia if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Avandia overdose include

  • Headache
  • Confusion
  • Irritability
  • Drowsiness
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Tremors
  • Sweating
